Mr. Tran Van Tho – alumni of Vietnam in Japan, a professor at Waseda University and member of Economic Advisory Group of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, has been awarded the Medal by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan at the ceremony in Tokyo on May 10.

The Order of the Sacred Treasure awarded since 1888, is awarded by the Emperor of Japan for foreign individuals , who have contributed to the political, economic, social development of Japan, and contributed to the development of relations between Japan’s country was awarded the medal.
In 2018, the Emperor of Japan awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure to 140 foreigners, including three Vietnamese.
In addition to Prof. Tran Van Tho, received the Order of the Sacred Treasure Gold Rays, the other two are Nguyen Huu Tai (60 years old) and Ngo Phuong Lan (55 years old) – both former Vietnamese Embassy officials in Japan- was awarded The Order of the Sacred Treasure Silver Rays.
After the ceremony, Prof. Tran Van Tho and his wife had an audience with Emperor at the Imperial Palace. Mr. Tran Van Tho was awarded this award for helping to promote the economic relationship between Japan and Vietnam as well as enhancing understanding for Japan.
Prof. Tran Van Tho has been studying in Japan since 1968. During the past 50 years, GS has contributed to promoting economic relations between Japan and Vietnam. Prof. has conducted many studies on Japan’s industrialization experience, most of which are postwar periods.
In 1993, Tran Van Tho was appointed as a member of the Advisory Group on Economic Reform and Public Administration Reform under Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet and is also currently a member of the Economic Advisory Team of the Prime Minister. In this position, he made recommendations on the strategy of industrialization and economic policy … based on the development experience of Japan to senior leaders of Vietnam, making great contributions to the development of economic cooperation between Japan and Vietnam.
In addition, Prof. Tran Van Tho introduced to the Vietnamese people the business philosophy of Japanese businessmen and the way of life of the great people of the Meiji period, contributing to enhancing the understanding of Vietnamese people about Japan.
Prof. Tran Van Tho also participated in the establishment of the Vietnam-Pacific Economic Center (1987) and the Vietnam Institute of General Studies (Waseda University) in 2004 and has endeavored to train researchers Young Vietnamese people with deep understanding of Japanese society and culture.
