MEXT – ASCOJA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IN 2017, SELECTED BY JAV

Annually, Japan Alumni Club in Vietnam (JAV) authorized by the Japan Embassy in Vietnam and the Japan Alumni Association of Asia (ASJA or International ASJA) to select and recommend a number of applicants with excellent academic achievements for MEXT- ASCOJA Scholarship Program sponsored by the Japanese Government (the Program referred by the name of the Ministry of Education and Science of Japan is MEXT Scholarship or Monbukagakusho Scholarship). In recently, JAV and ASJA jointly offer the MEXT – ASCOJA Scholarship to the selected applicants to study in Japan on a yearly basis.  For more details of the Scholarship Program, please visit the JAV website at: https://vaja.vn.

For the Scholarship Program in 2017, there will be scholarships offer to one Undergraduate student and two Post-graduate students.

The following information should be noted by all interested applicants:

  1. As a MEXT Scholarship is selected by Union of Japan Alumni of Southeast Asia (ASCOJA), it is called MEXT – ASCOJA Scholarship.
  2. The applicant for MEXT-ASCOJA Scholarship will get similar conditions applied to conventional MEXT scholarship applicant. However, for the applicant especially recommended by ASCOJA and JAV, some additional conditions and criteria of the admission are given. Therefore, these conditions notified by JAV should be further remarked.
  3. The register profile for the Scholarship selected by JAV will be sent directly to the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, so that the schedule for delivery and admission of the register profile in Vietnam is not gone with the schedule for these in the Department of Training with Foreign – Ministry of Education and Training (VIED – Governing Body for conventional Vietnam MEXT Scholarship). As the admission is approved, JAV also announced separately to the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, but VIED list is not included.
  4. The register profile for MEXT – ASCOJA Scholarship must go through two rounds of admission. In the first round, JAV will review all the register profile submitted and conduct interviews with the applicants. In the second round, the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, the selected applicants are required to attend written and oral examinations. Schedule for these tests will be announced by the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam to conventional MEXT Scholarship applicants.
  5. All successfully selected scholarship holders will enjoy all benefits offered by the Scholarship Program; however, they are obligated to participate in activities organized by ASCOJA and ASJA in Japan. ASJA organization is under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, which gives supports to all ASCOJA activities. (For more information, please visit the website of ASJA at http//www.asja.gr.jp)

Announcement of selection of the applicants who are Undergraduate Students and Graduate Students (MSc) for studying in Japan in 2017

  1. REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIC TO JAV RECOMMENDED CANDIDACY FOR MEXT – ASCOJA SCHOLARSHIP IN 2017

– Vietnamese citizens are living in Viet Nam, have good morality and health to study in foreign countries. It is prioritized for people who are working (payroll or long run contract) in universities, research institutes, offices and state enterprises.

– Be recommended by Offices and have to ensure to come back to work for country.

– Not more than 35 years old, counting to 1st April, 2017 (born after 1st April, 1982)

– The applicant for master scholarship is required to graduate from a formal university with distinction result or higher.

– For graduate scholarships, the distinction Freshman or Sophomore at formal universities whose GPA until the 1st semester of the year of 2015-2016 is at least 7 (according to scale of 10 or equivalent), not more than 21 years old (born after 1st April, 1996)

– Have enough foreign languages ability (English and/ or Japanese) to study. Those with either of the following degrees/ certificates are highly prioritized:

+ The Bachelor’s Degree, the Master’s Degree in foreign country with English or Japanese as the main study language.

+ The Bachelors, Masters in English or in Japanese in Vietnam;

+ Valid international/ local Certificate of TOEFL, International Certificate of IELTS or Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Certificate (Kyu/ N)

– Have interests and ability of social, cultural exchange activities when they are studying or after graduating.  It is prioritized for applicants having excellent studying achievements and high reward in social activities

– Have interests of foreign exchange, take part in exchange activities when they are studying in Japan or after graduating

– Be recommended by members of JAV Club.

– If they are selected, they have to ensure that they will participate actively in exchange activities of ASJA and ASCOJA in Japan and support JAV Club’s activities on time

– Have a clear and sufficient research plan.

–   Comply with the rules of Viet Nam and Japan, commit to carry on contents written in JAV form

– Be accepted by an university in Tokyo (or the areas surrounding Tokyo) if that scholarship candidate is selected

REMARKS:

– Do not receive candidates applying MEXT Scholarship via Ministry of Education or via Japan Embassy or via Japanese universities;

–  The people who had received scholarship of Japanese Government will apply only 3 years after coming back.   The people who are military or police, armed forces or are applying for other scholarships do not belong to kinds of people applying MEXT- ASCOJA Scholarship.

– Due to the requirements on ASJA – ASCOJA’s activities, the study in Tokyo area is one of prerequisites

– Do not return profiles;

– In nature, MEXT- ASCOJA Scholarship is MEXT scholarship offered by the Japanese Partner to JAV’s applicants to promote JAV’s activities. Therefore, the candidates recommended by JAV members are highly prioritized.

– For the JAV-recommended applicants who have the same distinction qualifications, and meet other conditions, requirements equally, it is highly prioritized for candidates who are the children of JAV former oversea students, then for those recommended by JAV members with contributions to JAV’s activities. In addition, JAV shall consider and highly prioritize the candidates with contributions to JAV’s activities or/ and the activities for the community.

– Due to said characteristics, the applicants without (direct or indirect via their family, relative) contributions to JAV’s activities or without social contributions are less prioritized.

2.1. English or Japanese profiles (submitted to JAV to deliver to the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam)

– The form and quantity of profiles are submitted correctly according to the instructions of the Japanese Government (please see the files attached to the Statements of the Vietnam International Education Development – Ministry of Education and Training by clicking into the following link:

– The list of required documents in each set of profile must be arranged correctly according to the required order with required set(s) of documents (in English or in Japanese) according to the Japanese Partner in the said files and their carbon copy is filed in JAV Office.

2.2. Vietnamese profiles

  1. Official documents of offices recommending applicants (working at the moment) or curriculum vitae with local confirm (for the unemployed);
  2. Registration form in the JAV- F1form (with your photo);
  3. Commitment document in the JAV- F2form
  4. A Copy of decision to recruit personnel or contract ( for people working at the moment)a copy of social insurance book or payroll showing that you had paid social insurance premium for 3 months before registering to apply for such scholarship;
  5. A copy of birth certificate;
  6. Curriculum vitae (in the common form, with confirmation of the Office, the School or the Local Authority);
  7. A copy of degree and scorecard of university or master course (if finish Masters and want to continue Doctors). In case of the scorecard is not count according to the scale of 10, it must be changed into the scale of 10 and enclosed with defined documents to judge of education;
  8. Recommendation letters of specialization (from the instructors, the Manager,…)
  9. Recommendation letters of JAV Club members, including judgment on ability, spirit to fall in line with community, characteristics and candidates’ responsibilities.
  10. English or Japanese certificates (if any);
  11. The receiving document of a Japanese University(if it is impossible to submit the receiving document together with the profile, the applicant may ask for extension of submission deadline for such document before the interview at the premise of the Embassy of Japan);
  12. .The list of research work was announced or the certificate of research work(if any);
  13. Related documents to scientific research work (if any);
  14. The documents, materials related to your past or present social activities (if any).

All are contained in an envelope / bag. The following information is required to be shown on the envelope / bag.

REMARKS:

– Submit the original profits in English or in Japanese (in the form required by MEXT)

– The applicants who sent the Vietnamese profits via email are required to supplement the original profiles in Vietnamese by such deadline. If they are sent by postal service, the receiving deadline is based on the postal seal on the date to JAV Office.

(JAV shall announce the pre-selection results to the candidates to take part in the interview)

– Forwarding the selected applicants’ profiles to the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam: June 13th– 14th, 2015

4.2. Round 2: Contest and Interview at the premise of the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam

According to the plan of the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, JAV shall send the specific announcement to the selected applicants.

Fee for registering to approve profiles is VND 300,000, sent with profiles to JAV Office (then, JAV Office shall send the receipt to the applicants) or by transfer to JAV’s bank account as follow:
